GYLES Thompson’s second-half strike against AFC Llwydcoed was enough to send Undy Athletic top of Welsh League division three.
The newly-promoted Gwent club took over at the summit from Pontypridd Town, whose match at Pontyclun last Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Undy could have made it a lot more comfortable than it was had James Barnes converted a first-half penalty which was superbly saved by Llwydcoed ‘keeper Martyn Phillips.
Jeff White was on target for third-placed Bridgend Street in their 1-1 draw with UWIC while, at the bottom, a Jonathan Dunn brace lifted Treowen Stars off the foot of the table with a 2-1 victory at home to Newport Civil Service.
In the only other game to beat the weather, Briton Ferry Llansawel kept up the heat on the top three with a 3-1 success against Cardiff Grange Harlequins.
Two goals from Gareth Jones and one by Rory Healey were enough to give them the three points.
