Spot kick miss proves costly for Ferry

BRITON Ferry Llansawel squandered the chance to close the gap on the leading pack in Welsh League division three, none of which were in action last weekend.
But it wasn’t as if the opportunities weren’t there for Ferry in their match at Goytre as the hosts were reduced to 10 men during the first-half, Matthew Prosser receiving his marching orders.
Ferry’s Rory Healey also missed a penalty to draw the visitors level at 2-2 as fifth beat fourth at Plough Road.
Cory Jenkins gave Goytre the lead on 10 minutes only for Healey to equalise on the half hour.  Graham Mason restored the hosts’ advantage only for Healey to fail from the spot.
Kristian Wharton made Ferry pay with a third early in the second-half and despite Ross Davies pulling one back, late misses by Gareth Jones and Carl Shaw ensured the away team went home empty-handed.
Elsewhere, the basement battle between Treowen Stars and Pontyclun ended 1-1. Pat Bosquette gave Pontyclun the lead with a quarter of an hour left but a penalty by John Dunn four minutes later rescued a share of the spoils.
In the only other match, Abertillery Bluebirds won 2-1 at Newport Civil Service to move up to seventh. The matches between AFC Llwydcoed and Risca and UWIC and leaders Undy Athletic were called off.
