Corinthians' spirit earns point against leaders

SUBSTITUTE Danny Hooper’s equaliser earned lowly Cardiff Corinthians a point against Welsh League leaders Cambrian & Clydach to aid their battle to beat the drop.
Hooper struck 15 minutes from time to cancel out Jason Bertorelli’s goal earlier in the second-half at the Riverside Ground in Radyr.
The point did extend the visitors’ lead at the top of division one to four points but they will look at it as two dropped against a side they would have expected to beat.
Meanwhile, West End and Bridgend Town kept themselves in with a shout of the title with victories at Caerau (Ely) and Goytre United respectively.
Alex Chrysanthou’s eighth goal of the season gave his side a half-time lead at the division’s bottom club before Ashley Curtis sealed the three points in the 70th minute.
Richard French put Goytre in front at Glenhafod Park on Friday night but the former champions couldn’t hold on and strikes from Jamal Easter either side of the interval won it for Bridgend.
Despite picking up a point from a 1-1 draw at Bryntirion Athletic, AFC Porth slipped to fifth in the table behind West End and Bridgend.
Jared Williams was on target for the Rhondda outfit in Bryntirion but so too was Ricky Hodge for the hosts.
Taffs Well leapt a couple of places to sixth following a 3-1 success at Pontardawe Town with in-form Tyrone Topper bagging a second-half brace.
The home side did halve the deficit on 82 minutes through Steven Lewis but a Neil Coleman goal three minutes from time put the result beyond doubt.
Haverfordwest County were the other winners at the weekend, beating Cwmaman Institute 3-1 with Darren Griffiths netting twice and Nicky Woodrow once. A Jarrod Price penalty had given Cwm some hope at 2-1 down before Griffiths struck for a second time.
Elsewhere, Barry and Ton Pentre fought out a 0-0 stalemate at Jenner Park.
