Steelmen dispatch Zebras in ruthless fashion

Ebbw Vale increased their lead to four points at the summit of Division One East in ruthless fashion, dispatching in form Treorchy 35-0 at Eugene Cross Park.
The Steelmen took an early lead thanks to a Dorian Jones penalty, with Ross Jones going over for the opening try of the match shortly after. The Zebras stemmed the tirade of pressure from the hosts and tried in vain to get back in to the match, but failed to turn any of their possession into points.
The hosts once again got off to a flying start after the interval, with Dorian Jones firing home his second penalty to take an 11-0 lead. The trailblazers then turned the screw with some great play up front, setting up a further four touchdowns through Wes Cunliffe, Ronnie Kynes, Nicky Coughlin and Gareth James. Dorian Jones added the extras to two of these.
Second placed Bargoed maintained their impressive form, defeating Glamorgan Wanderers 19-11 at the Memorial Ground, but the highfliers slipped further behind the leaders by not securing the all important try bonus point.
There was nothing to choose between the sides at the interval with scores tied, 11-11, in a scrappy match. Wing Lee Pearson went over for the visitors with Josh Prosser slotting two penalties. Wanderers meanwhile crossed for their only try of the game through Owen Marshall, with the ever reliable Gareth Cull landing two penalties.
After the interval, Bargoed secured the victory thanks to another Prosser penalty and a try from Lewis Weyman.
Blackwood ended their sixth match losing streak, defeating Merthyr 25-6 at the Wern.
The visitors bagged a try bonus point thanks to touchdowns from David Ford, Rhodri Usher, Greg Baker and captain Kristian Perry. Adam Jones added a conversion and a penalty.
The Ironmen could only manage two first half Lloyd Hynes penalties, and slip below Blackwood as a result of the loss.
Newbridge, inspired by Neil Burnett, picked up a 23-10 success at Rumney to move up to third in the table
The visitors ran in two tries through Tom Edwards and Burnett, with the latter also firing home three penalties and two conversions to take his tally to 18 points for the match.
Rumney meanwhile were restricted to a Gareth Stoppani touchdown, with Danny Clark adding the extras and also landing a first half drop goal.
Meanwhile, Gilfach Goch suffered their second defeat in as many weeks, going down 17-11 at Beddau as they slipped to fourth in the table.
Beddau fought back from an 8-3 deficit at half time with Darren Pierce crossing for the hosts, and Joe Griffin adding three second half penalties to add to his first half effort.
Gowch’s points came through an Andrew Williams touchdown and two Ian Davies penalties.
Elsewhere, in the battle of the newcomers, Mountain Ash scored two tries in injury time to bag a 33-3 bonus point triumph over Tredegar.
The Old Firm's four tries came courtesy of wing Ross Keeping, centre Dale Keeping, scrum-half Marcus Kleine and prop James Cowdry, while outside half Josh Lewis knocked over three penalties and two conversions.
