Chance for chasing pack to close gap

THE clubs chasing Cambrian & Clydach at the top of Welsh League Division One will look to close the gap on the leaders this Saturday with the Rhondda side in cup action.
While the pacesetters travel to Bridgend Street in the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup last eight, the likes of Cwmbran Celtic, AFC Porth and West End will be doing all they can to stay in touch with the team at the top.
For all of the first division clubs it will be their first taste of action since December 17 with Cwmbran seeking to follow up their 2-1 win at Goytre United on that day with a similar result against fifth-placed Bridgend Town.
West End in fourth had to settle for a point at Cardiff Corinthians last time out but with home advantage should have too much firepower for Barry Town, whose last league victory was at Pontardawe near the end of November.
On a run of four without defeat, AFC Porth, in third, make the trip west to Haverfordwest County knowing three points and a slip-up by Cwmbran could see them go second on Saturday evening.
Elsewhere, bottom club Caerau (Ely) host sixth-placed Goytre United and Aberaman Athletic go to Cardiff Corries.
Game of the day in Division Two is in Port Talbot where Tata Steel in third lock horns with Caerau, who lie sixth, just a point behind their opponents.
Leaders Monmouth Town will be expected to win at Ammanford while closest rivals Newport YMCA are also away at Bettws, who desperately need to pick up points.
The three sides propping up the table are all on the road. Aberbargoed Buds play mid-table Dinas Powys, Treharris Athletic Western meet Caerleon and Newcastle Emlyn look to cause an upset at fifth-placed Penrhiwceiber Rangers.
The other matches are Croesyceiliog versus Garden Village and Ely Rangers against Caldicot Town.
The top two in Division Three clash at Ynysangharad Park as Pontypridd Town aim to consolidate pole position with a win against Undy Athletic.
At the bottom, basement boys Treowen Stars, newcomers to the Welsh League this season, have a great opportunity to get something from their encounter with AFC Llwydcoed in the Cynon Valley.
Fellow strugglers Pontyclun have home advantage when they meet Risca United, Briton Ferry Llansawel visit Newport Civil Service and Cardiff Grange Harlequins face Tredegar Town tomorrow night (Friday).
