Club throws open doors as part of WRU drive

A WEST Wales rugby club is opening its doors to anyone keen on getting involved in the game as part of WRU initiative ‘Join the Beat’.
Experienced club members, players and officials of Penygroes RFC, who play in Division Five West  of the SWALEC Leagues, will be available on January 29 to talk to those who want to get into rugby whether it’s to keep fit, help the local community or start playing.
The WRU scheme has been designed to boost participation levels at community clubs across Wales with a view to finding new players, coaches, match officials, volunteers, first aiders and administrators.
Rugby’s governing body in Wales is looking to build on the success of the national team at last autumn’s World Cup and is viewing ‘Join the Beat’ as a long-term project.
The Penygroes Rugby & Community Sports Association is holding its open day between noon and 4pm at the clubhouse in Waterloo Road, Penygroes (SA14 7NP) and all visitors will be able to participate in a number of activities.
A selection of WRU giveaways are on offer and those who turn up will also be entered into a free draw for an official Webb Ellis Swalec League match ball. If you need further information, please call club chairman Derek McAndrew on 01269 831150 or secretary Mansell Rees on 01269 845992.
