Steelmen pushed all the way by Gowch

Leaders Ebbw Vale were pushed all the way by in-form Gilfach Goch in the Division One East clash, with the Steelmen edging proceedings 21-16.
The Steelmen got off to the better start as a Dorian Jones penalty and a Tom Macpherson touchdown put them 8-3 up, and things went from bad to worse for Gowch when their loosehead prop Ashley Copic was sent off for dangerous use of the knee.
The visitors capitalised to extend their lead to 16-6 at the break thanks to another Dorian Jones penalty and a well-taken try by Dai Jones. Try machine and full back Charlie Simpson also crossed after the break to complete their scoring.
Even with a numerical disadvantage, Gowch made it a dogged fight until the end and got their reward of a losing bonus point thanks to a late James Lock touchdown, outside half Ian Davies adding the extras to his three earlier penalties.
Highlfying Bargoed closed the gap on the leaders to just three points thanks to a try bonus home victory over Beddau.
The hosts crossed five times through Lewis Protheroe, Mike Roberts, and Andrew McCloughlin, with Gareth Davies bagging a brace. Outside half Matthew Hurley added a conversion to complete the scoring.
Beddau ran in three tries of their own through Bradley Coombes, Sam Campbell and Matthew Hunt, with Joe Griffin also landing a solitary conversion, as the visitors fell just short of a deserved losing bonus point.
Newbridge got their season back on track after two consecutive losses, running out 19-9 home winners over Merthyr.
Outside half Neil Burnett was in fine form for the hosts finding the target with four penalties and the extras to Ceri Young’s touchdown.
The Ironmen’s solitary try of the match came ten minutes from time when Robert Sweeney crossed to add to Lloyd Hines’ first half penalty.
Meanwhile, in a mid district derby, Treorchy came out on top 19-8 over Mountain Ash at the Oval.
The Zebras came back from 8-0 down at the break in a match heavily influenced by the wind. Richard Lewis got the hosts’ only try while Celyn Ashton produced a fine performance, notching up 12 points through three penalties, a drop goal and a conversion.
The Old Firm were restricted to a Scott Davies first half touchdown and a Josh Lewis penalty.
Elsewhere, Rumney edged out Tredegar by the narrowest of margins, 22-21, as the visitors picked up their fifth win of the season
Rumney staged a fight back to come from 14-3 down at the break, running in two tries through second row Paul Bull, and wing Gareth Stopanni, as well being rewarded a penalty try. Outside half Danny Clarke meanwhile fired home a penalty and landed two conversions.
Hosts Tredegar will feel hard done by not to come away with the win, but will have to make do with a losing bonus point after tries through scrum-half Rhys Hallett, Matthew Cummings and Greg Jones, with the latter also slotting three conversions.
Finally, Glamorgan Wanderers comfortably defeated Blackwood 33-15, outscoring their rivals three tries to two.
The Wanderers’, who are finally finding their feet, star of the match was Gareth Cull who notched up 18 points with the boot through four penalties and also converted Owen Marshall’s, Mike Catris’ and Charlie Johnston’s touchdowns.
Blackwood’s tries both came through Rhys Miller, with Gareth Price adding a conversion and a penalty.
