A trio of Welsh League Division Three sides will be targeting upsets in the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup quarter-finals this Saturday.
Abertillery Bluebirds, Bridgend Street and UWIC, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, all face Division One opponents in the last eight with the remaining tie an all top-tier affair.
Bridgend face probably the toughest task of the three when they welcome first division leaders Cambrian & Clydach to The Willows.
The visitors are still unbeaten in the league this season and have a six-point advantage over second-placed Cwmbran Celtic with four games in hand. Bridgend, though, are doing badly themselves.
They sit five points behind division three leaders Pontypridd Town with two matches in hand having only lost once themselves so far.
UWIC could well have their work cut out against Ton Pentre, who overcame Ely Rangers 5-4 in a remarkable clash in the Rhondda to make the quarters.
That said, UWIC didn’t show any signs of being overawed against top division opposition in the last round when they smashed West End 4-0 at home. The same could be said of Bridgend after they accounted for division one strugglers Caerau (Ely) on penalties after the game had finished 2-2 at the end of extra-time.
The Bluebirds, who put out Tredegar Town after a shoot-out in round three, entertain Bryntirion Athletic, 3-0 winners over Barry Town in the last 16. The Seasiders had been responsible for dumping last season’s champions Goytre out of the tournament in the first round.
Meanwhile, Pontardawe Town, who beat Caerleon 9-8 on penalties in round three, take on Taffs Well at the Recreation Ground. All games kick-off at 1.30pm.
