Highfliers Bargoed leapt to the top of Division One East with a hard fought 12-9 victory over rivals Gilfach Goch at Welfare Park.
Gowch started the better and were on top for much of the opening half, but could only manage two Ian Davies penalties for all their possession.
The visitors cut back on their errors after the interval and got their reward when the referee awarded them a penalty try, with Joe Prosser knocking over the conversion. Lee Pearson bagged their second try of the match to secure the win for his side.
Gil will once again have to make do with a losing bonus point after only managing a further Davies penalty after the break, and have now lost their last three matches on the bounce.
Newbridge continued their impressive form since the Christmas break, convincingly defeating newcomers Mountain Ash 31-7 at the Welfare Ground.
The hosts got off to a lightning start with Tom Edwards crossing for his first of the afternoon after only four minutes, doubling their lead not long after when Dwayne Dyer powered his way over the whitewash to take a 10-0 lead into the break.
After the interval, Newbridge once again started the brighter with outside half Neil Burnet touching down before Edwards bagged his second with an interception try, and Dyer also completed his brace, crossing under the posts to seal a clinical display.
The Old Firm’s only consolation was a second half touchdown from Rhys Keepings.
Blackwood bagged back to back victories with a 17-8 home win over Rumney.
The hosts outscored their rivals two tries to one with Jamie Jones and Adam Jones going over, with the latter also slotting a penalty and a conversion, while Jeremy Roberts also landed a conversion.
All Rumney’s points came before the break with Matthew Way touching down and Danny Clarke firing home a penalty.
Meanwhile, in a mid table battle, Beddau did just enough to come out on top 20-15 over Treorchy at the Oval.
The visitors ran in two tries through Bradley Coombs and Robert Downes, while Joe Griffin was on form with the boot in difficult conditions, knocking over two penalties and both conversions.
The loss was the Zebras' second defeat on the bounce and will have to be content with a losing bonus point thanks to Jordan Lloyd and Daniel Thorne touchdowns either side of the break, with Celyn Ashton adding a conversion and a penalty.
In the day's other fixture, Merthyr narrowly defeated Glamorgan Wanderers 20-15.
The Ironmen were trailing at the interval but a strong second half performance saw the hosts home. Kristian Dacey touched down to add to Darryl Jenkins’ earlier effort, while Lloyd Hynes added conversions to both and was also on target with two penalties.
The Wanderers also crossed twice through Charlie Johnson and their top try scorer Joe Xiberras, while Gareth Cull landed a penalty and a conversion.
Finally, the match between Tredegar and Ebbw Vale was postponed due to a fixture clash at the Recreation Ground.
