Tredegar stun Newbridge

Basement boys Tredegar recorded the upset of the day in Division One East when the newcomers bagged their maiden win of the season, downing highflying Newbridge 23-17 at the Recreation Ground.
The hosts took full advantage of the sending off of Newbridge centre Geraint Langdon by Referee Mike Bethel for punching on 30 minutes but had taken an early lead thanks to a Matt McGovern try before the interval, with Aled Jenkins going over in the second. Greg Jones added three penalties and a conversion, with Scott Amber also slotting a conversion.
The visitors’ only try of the match came late on from Rhys Price, with Bevan Howells firing home four penalties.

Defending Champions Ebbw Vale continue to reign supreme at the top, courtesy of a 50-11 demolition of Glamorgan Wanderers at Eugene Cross Park.
The Steelmen crossed for seven tries in and secured their try bonus point before the interval. Tom McPherson and Dan Haymond both bagged braces, while centre Charlie Simpson, Dan Dearden and Dai Jones also went over. Outside half Dorian Jones added the extras to six and also landed a penalty.
The Wanderers solitary try came through Mike Stephens, while Gareth Cull slotted two penalties.
Treorchy narrowly came out on top to edge to a 15-13 away win over Blackwood.
The Zebras were trailing 13-3 at the interval but a strong second half performance saw Ryan Evans and Andrew Mallin touch down, with Celwyn Ashton landing the extras to one to add to his first half penalty.
Blackwood, who slipped to their seventh defeat, will have to make do with a losing bonus point. The hosts notched up all of their points in the opening half through Christian Perry and Rhodri Usher touchdowns, with Gareth Price also slotting a penalty.
Meanwhile, Bargoed moved up to second thanks to a try bonus 38-14 victory over Rumney at Riverside Park.
The highfliers crossed for five tries including a brace for Lewis Protheroe, with Andy McLaughlin, Lee Pearson and Matthew Hurley also touching down. Hurley converted all five and also landed a penalty.
The hosts were restricted to two touchdowns from John Leadbetter and Mike Neal, with Danny Clark adding the extras to both.
Gilfach Goch notched up their fifth consecutive victory with a 33-15 win at Merthyr.
Goch maintained their impressive run of results, helping themselves to four tries through wing Kanye Hendrickson, Andrew Williams, Callum Thomas and centre Phil Price, while full back Ray Evans fired home three penalties and two conversions.
The Ironmen could only manage two touchdowns through wing Greg Plant and hooker Jonathan Bowen while Neil Burnett added a conversion and a penalty.
Finally, Beddau bagged their sixth victory with a 29-19 triumph over Mountain Ash at Parc Duffryn Pennar.
The hosts’ star of the match was Cameron Pimlow who crossed for a brace of tries, fired home four penalties and slotted a conversion. Ben Curran also touched down.
The Old Firm meanwhile, who led 13-11 at half time, fell just short of gaining a losing bonus point despite a try from Chris Davies and an excellent display of goal kicking from Josh Lewis, who slotted a conversion, three penalties and a drop goal.
