Teams fight for place in Round Three

The second round of the Swalec Bowl took place yesterday with 64 matches due to be played and 128 teams still hoping to emulate last year’s Champions Senghenydd and make it all the way to the Millennium Stadium.
Tycroes continued their outstanding start to the season, moving into the third round of the Swalec Bowl with a 31-3 triumph at the expense of local rivals Cefneithin. Tycroes ran in five tries with Robert Davies crossing twice for the visitors.
In an all Division Four clash, West highfliers Amman United comfortably prevailed over Abercrave 27-12 at Plas Y Ddol.
United bagged five tries through second rows Ross Smith and Iwan Davies while Scott Stevens, Joel Foster and Dean Williams, brother of Shane, also touched down.
The hosts, who sit bottom of Four South West, were held to two tries from Luke Battenbaugh and Adam Evans in reply.
In the match between Bynea and Gowerton, honours finished even, 20-20, and as both teams were also level on try count, Gowerton progress by virtue of being the away side.
Meanwhile, Aberaeron didn’t let their league form hold them back when they entertained fellow Four West side Llanybydder, with the hosts picking up a 19-8 triumph, and Pontardawe bagged a hard fought 19-15 win at Trebanos, despite being outscored two tries to one.
Nantgaredig of Five South West sprung a surprise on Four West’s Neyland when the lower league side held on for a 17-12 home victory.
The hosts came out on top thanks to three tries from Gethin Page, Mark Davies and Rhydian Evans, with Meirion Davies converting one.
Dolgellau easily overcame Abergele to pick up a 56-3 home win. The hosts crossed for ten tries in a dominant performance which included a hat-trick of touchdowns for Ian Jones-Morris and a brace for Dewi Thomas.
Highflying Two North’s Rhyl had far too much pace and power for the hosting Newtown with the visitors swooping to a 48-14 triumph and Shotton Steel edged out Harlech 7-6 to progress to the next round.
Treharris narrowly overcame Cefn Coed 11-10 to bridge a two Division gap, for the lowly Division Seven outfit to bag a place in the next round. Treharris secured the victory through a Gareth Davies touchdown, with Matthew Meaney firing home a penalty and Dan Parry slotting the all important drop goal.
Meanwhile, there were home wins for Nantymoel, who strolled to a 33-12 triumph over Ogmore Vale, and Wick, who came out on top 27-0 against CIACS.
Elsewhere, Abercarn ran out 31-15 victors at Cwmbran.
The visitors were on top throughout with touchdowns from Ryan Jones, Joes Coughlin, Matthew Britten and Aaran Davies, while Rhys Carpenter fired home three penalties and a conversion.
Finally, there were walkovers for Milford Haven, New Tredegar and Banwen as Lampeter College, Cwmcarn and Blaenau were unable to field teams.
