Swalec League chatter

THE long-term future of some clubs is still one of the big talking points around the SWALEC Leagues with news emerging this week that Aberavon Naval have been turfed out of Division Six West.
That step was taken by the WRU after the Port Talbot-based club failed to fulfil any fixtures following an opening day drubbing at the hands of Penybanc. It comes after BP Llandarcy, Cwm and Llangoed were all booted out earlier this season for the same reason.

Another club going through some troubling times is Maesteg, who have had well-documented problemslems during the first few months of the campaign.A player shortage again forced them to postpone their Division Two West fixture last weekend when they were due to face high-flyers Glynneath.Maesteg’s rearranged match at Kidwelly is scheduled for this Saturday while WRU sources say the club are set to appear in front of the governing body’s regulatory committee next Thursday (Nov 10) to explain their circumstances.

A number of individuals had to explain their actions to the WRU’s disciplinary panel at the latest hearing in Cardiff, with a few hefty punishments dished out for misdemeanours on the pitch.Jamie Davies of Porth Harlequins received a 24-week suspension for physically abusing a match official during his side’s 28-25 SWALEC Bowl first round defeat by Glyncoch on October 8. It means he will not be able to play again until April 11 next year. In fact, Porth will also be without Jamie Caple for six weeks after he was red-carded in the same match for verbally abusing a match official.Glyncoch didn’t escape punishment either with Eddy Davies being banned for five weeks for punching an opponent. He can return on November 30.
