Ammanford, who broke their five match losing streak against Bridgend Athletic last weekend, will be looking to back up their performance when they host Bonymaen on Saturday. It will surely be a keenly contested match, with the visitors sitting just one place below them in Division one West.
“We were very relieved to get that win under our belts and the fact it was an excellent game of rugby made it all the better,” said Secretary Lyn Roberts. “It has really given the boys a boost and hopefully with that shot of confidence we can push on and we are really targeting a win against Bonymaen on Saturday to consolidate our position.”
The newly promoted outfit have suffered with injuries so far this season.
“We are again missing a few of our regulars with scrum-half Iwan Mainwaring and captain Mark Jones still sidelined, but the youngsters we have blooded into the side have really stood up to the test such as Matthew Bartlett, Carwyn Richards and Ashley Evans,” added Roberts.
Bonymaen, however, will also be looking to bag back to back victories as the Swansea outfit aim to build on their bonus point win over Llangennech last week.
“There was huge relief all round, we played pretty well throughout the match but let them in with silly mistakes,” commented Club Official Nick Cunniffe. “Thankfully we got the luck we needed and won it with practically the last play of the match, which is hopefully just the break we require to get our season going.”
Bony, who will take their place in the newly formed Championship next season, have only won three of their opening ten matches so far.
“Focusing on the match ahead, obviously Ammanford are one place above us in the table so it’s a massive game for us and we are expecting a big battle. We haven’t played them for nearly 15 years so it’ll be nice to return and hopefully come away with a victory,” said Cunniffe.
Carmarthen Athletic, who have had a mixed start to their campaign, will look to bounce back from their narrow loss at leaders Whitland last week when they host UWIC.
“We were disappointed with the result last weekend. We played well, had lots of possession but just couldn’t turn it into points which was frustrating,” said Team Manager Stuart Harries. “Every match is difficult in this Division and UWIC will no doubt be fired up after losing to Narberth, so we are definitely anticipating a tough encounter. After all the rain we have had, the pitch is playing heavy so it may come down to a war of attrition and who can keep their heads in the conditions.”
Athletic have no injury worries for the students' visit.
Meanwhile, Waunarlwydd will be eager to notch up another win, when they travel to highflying Tata Steel.
“We were exceptionally relieved to win last week but know we face a very difficult game at Tata on Saturday,” said Club Official Clive James.
Elsewhere, the top two do battle as Llangennech entertain pacemakers Whitland, Narberth welcome Llanharan and Bridgend Athletic travel to basement boys Tondu.
