Tata Steel will be hoping to bounce back from two consecutive defeats in Division One West when they travel to new boys Ammanford on Saturday.
“We’ve had to make a few changes in our pack due to availability, and the team hasn’t been as settled as we would have liked which has affected the results on the pitch,” said Coach Mike Healy. “We were a bit disappointed with the result against Llangennech. The boys switched off second half and they really took advantage. We do have a few players returning from holidays and various other commitments so we’re pretty optimistic for the game at Ammanford, although we know it’s going to be a tough match.”
The Steel-men will be bolstered by the return to availability of second rows Matthew Davies and Danny Hopkins, with centres Anthony Rogers and Scott Robinson also back in contention.
Llangennech, who have won two on the bounce, will look to continue their winning ways when they host Narberth at Park Rugby Ground.
“We were happy with the win last week but it’s really about building on each performance for us,” said Team Manager Alan Webb. “We’re looking to keep improving match on match and we will need to, as it will be a massive test against Narberth, they’re a very good side. Our Captain Justin Hughes joined us from there. He wants to win every match and will definitely be up for this clash, as will all the team.”
Llangennech’s only injury concern is Chris Mathias who remains sidelined with an elbow injury.
Carmarthen Athletic will hope to maintain their position as top dog in the table with securing victory at Bridgend Athletic.
“We’ve started quite well and obviously happy to be top, but we were disappointed to lose last weekend at Narberth. We played really well first half, scored some great tries but then went to sleep a bit in the second and let them back into it which was frustrating,” said Team Manager Stuart Harries. “Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, we know it’s going to be another tough game. Bridgend Athletic don’t lose too many matches at home but we’ll be going into it confident we can notch up another win.”
Unfortunately for Carmarthen, they will be missing outside half David Lakin through injury with hooker Osian Lloyd also absent for three weeks having sustained concussion last weekend.
Waunarlwydd, after their brilliant start, suffered their first loss last weekend against local rivals Bonymaen, but will be hoping to notch up their fourth win when they travel to Whitland.
“We were disappointed with the result against Bonymaen last weekend but the best side won on the day, so we’ll be looking for an improvement against Whitland on Saturday,” said Club Official Clive James. “It will undoubtedly be a tough match though and our record at Whitland hasn’t been the best in recent years, but hopefully we can change that.”
The Green and Blacks will still be without Captain Nathan Hart with Sion Evans also sidelined after aggravating a shoulder injury, while Matthew Mason will face a late fitness test on his knee to determine his participation.
Elsewhere, Bonymaen will be hoping to notch up their third straight win when they host Tondu and Llanharan travel to UWIC.
