Bonymaen, who have had a difficult start in Division One West after their outstanding season last year, will be looking to secure their third win when they travel to Tata Steel on Saturday.
“It hasn’t been the greatest of starts for us, we’re rebuilding as a team and that takes time. Having said that, we had a great win at Waunarlwydd but then couldn’t follow it up against Tondu, so we’re struggling for momentum at the moment,” said Team Manage Nick Cunniffe. “The match at Tata Steel will be very difficult. It hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for us and we haven’t come away with a victory for years, but in this league, teams have proven anyone can beat anyone on a given day.”
Bony have two injury concerns going into the match with second rows John Davies and Gareth Phillips both picking up knocks on the weekend.
Waunarlwydd, who have faltered of late by losing their last two matches, will hope to put in a better performance when they host UWIC on Saturday.
“We were lucky that Whitland only scored 46 points against us, we really didn’t perform well,” said Club Official Clive James. “Looking ahead to this week’s match, we realise it’s going to be a tough match. The Students like to play open style rugby and they’re on a good run at the moment, but hopefully we can put in a good performance and get the result we want.”
The Green and Blacks will undoubtedly be glad to welcome back Captain Nathan Hart and outside half Jonny Davies who was unavailable last weekend as he played for Llanelli, while hooker Lee Brooks may also return. However, Waun will be without prop Tom Gronow who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Carmarthen Athletic, who have had a mixed start to the season, will be hoping to bounce back after their disappointing performance at Bridgend when they welcome Llangennech in a local derby.
“We didn’t play well at Bridgend, they came out of the blocks firing and when we eventually got going, the game was gone,” said Team Manager Stuart Harries. “It will be another tough match on Saturday. Llangennech are playing well at the moment and their confidence will be high, but it’s a local derby so all the lads will be more than up for the match.”
Athletic have a few injuries heading into the weekend with hooker Osian Lloyd still sidelined with concussion and prop Mark ‘Chips’ Davies out with a twisted ankle. Stuart Morris is also doubtful with a hand injury, while Captain Henry Boot is suffering from tonsillitis.
Meanwhile, Ammanford will look to recover from two consecutive losses when they travel to Narberth.
Elsewhere, Llanharan entertain Bridgend Athletic and leaders Whitland travel to new boys Tondu.
