Wattstown and Fishguard progress to last four of Swalec Bowl

The inclement weather put paid to two of the four scheduled Swalec Bowl matches, with Wattstown and Fishguard both keeping their Millennium Stadium ambitions alive.

Four South East outfit Pontycymmer made the long trip west to Fishguard, but were booted out 19-16 at the Moor.

James Griffiths was the star of the show for the Seagulls as he landed four penalties and converted Ed Bendle’s touchdown to kick his side in to the semi-finals.

There was another nail-biter at Wattstown as the Four South East title contenders edged past lower league Nantyglo 18-16.

The Ducks ran in two tries courtesy of Ben Evans and Glen Slater, while Dano Roberts added three points and Michael Tinson kicked five more. Sion Thomas grabbed all of Nantyglo’s points through a converted try and three penalties.

The two postponed fixtures, Blaenavon against Penlan and giant killers Cambrian Welfare’s showdown at Cilfynydd, will take place next weekend.
