The North Walian, of Le Sport club, was competing in Germany
at the end of a busy period for the youngsters of Welsh squash as they competed
at various national championships across the continent.
Most remarkable about these achievements is that Elin has
only just turned 15, and looks set to take her place among the top three in
Europe at under-17 level when the latest rankings are published next month.
Jenny Haley again contested the final with Harlow, their
second in quick succession, but lost out in the crunch match for a second time.
As well as Harlow’s continued success, Ciara Richards is
another becoming accustomed with the winners’ podium as she followed up her
titles at the under-13 level in France and Wales by helping the Under-13 Welsh
team to silver at the Five Nations Squash Championships in Le Mans.
The under-13 and under-15 boys have also been faring well,
with players such as Emyr Evans and Joel Makin achieving top three finishes in
their last two European events.
Director of performance and coaching, Mike Workman, said:
“With the support of Sport Wales it has enabled us to expose the juniors of all
ages to the top class squash in Europe. This will only help us as a nation move
forward when competing in the upcoming European events.”
The Welsh teams
competing in Le Mans:
Under-13: Jordan Williams, Srikar Mummidi, Lewis
Clements, Kieran Hillman, Ciara Richards, Katie Jones, Kate Workman.
Under-15: Elliott
Morris-Devred, Joshua Lee,
Daniel Christopher, Joe Rhys Curtis, Tyra
