Montague helps Llantrisant keep their Cup love story alive

Lewys Montague helped Llantrisant maintain their Swalec Plate love story, as the full-back booted the Two East side past Waunarlwydd, 35-27, and into the quarter-finals.

Llantrisant ran in four tries in an open game at the Recreation Ground of their Division One rivals, with Matthew Griffiths claiming a brace, while Josh Daniel and Elliot Jones also touched down. But it was the boot of Montague that proved pivotal, however, as he fired home three penalties and three conversions.

For Waun, their Cup dreams are over for another year despite tries from Ben James, Alan Pope and Andrew Rees-Spowatt, while Llantrisant’s reward is a home tie against One East side Rhydyfelin.

Kidwelly's Dafydd Latham evades the Garn defence to cross

There was no such upset at Kidwelly, however, where the One West side annihilated lower league Garndiffaith, 52-0.

Wing Andy Francis was a constant threat all afternoon.

The Black and Ambers were far too strong for their visitors, running in eight tries in all. Jonathan Williams, Chris Davies, Dafydd Latham, Jason Smith, Robin Davies, Dafydd Lewis and Gareth Rees all crossed the whitewash for the hosts.

A resolute Kidwelly defence kept Garn at bay throughout.
Kidwelly will face off against fellow One West rivals Cwmllynfell in a mouth-watering quarter-final match up.

Elsewhere, Rhys Truelove booted One East highfliers Ystrad Rhondda to a narrow 9-3 home win over Kenfig Hill, as they claimed a place in the next round.
