Matty Williams celebrates his goal with Simon Spender |
Matty Williams was the hero, scoring the only goal on 57
minutes to put the holders in to the final four, and they will find out their
possible foes after the conclusion of the remaining three fixtures today (March
2).
After an even, bland first half had raised home fans’ hopes
of a possible shock, they really had the bit between their teeth when TNS’ Sam
Finley saw red for a stamp on the Bluebirds’ Sean Pemberton.

But the joy was short-lived; just five minutes later, the
deadlock was broken when Williams collected the ball on the edge of the area
and fired home.
It was poetic justice for the former Manchester United and
Notts County player. He was plagued with injury last season and missed the
majority of the campaign, as well as a Welsh Cup and Premier League winners’ medal.
He has had to bide his time this season to break in to the first team, but
struck a real claim for a starting berth with such a valuable goal.
