Penallta remain top of Division Two East courtesy of a 48-8 thumping of Tylorstown.
The Pitmen, who have not tasted defeat since October, were contained to 17-3 by Tyly at half time, but it was only a matter of time before the Pitmen broke the visitors' resistance as the tries flowed.
The Tigers, despite fielding a strong pack, could not contain their Penallta counterparts with scrum half Chris Thomas the only back to cross the whitewash. With a fair amount of changes in the hosts' line up as the long season starts to take its toll, there were impressive performances from Gavin Jones, who returned from injury to bag a brace, while Andrew Jackson, called up from the seconds, also grabbed a second half brace. Replacement hooker Lucas Edwards showed excellent athleticism to run 60 yards, while Rhys Clarker and Keiran Mahoney also touched down.
Penallta flanker Marc Jones had an impressive return from injury. |
Penallta’s 13th consecutive win clinched a guaranteed top 4 finish and promotion, and as the rules currently stand, into Division One East, along with Ystrad Rhondda after they dismantled Rhymney 50-22.
Ystrad were inspired by a great all round performance from David Gratton who amassed 30 of his side's points through a hat-trick of touchdowns and fifteen points with the boot, while centre Andrew Hutchings, hooker Carl Sacey, back row Ashley Macey and full back Alex Webber also crossed the whitewash.
Next week sees Penallta face Bethesda and Ystrad Rhondda tackle Nant Conwy in the semi finals of the Swalec Plate.
Meanwhile Rhydyfelin, who are also chasing a top four finish, put strugglers Fleur de Lys to the sword with a 57-8 thumping at Trelyn Park.
The visitors helped themselves to nine tries with Gavin Close bagging 22 points including a brace of touchdowns that took his tally to 23 for the season, while Lewis Smith and Ross Lucas also got a double, with Sam Evans, Josh Hawkins and Scott Pritchard all getting themselves on the score sheet.
Fellow promotion hopefuls Ynysybwl looked impressive in their 44-23 home victory over Bedlinog.
Bwl ran in six tries through Ricky Thomas, Dafydd Davies, Gareth King, Alun Thomas, Neil Grffiths and Dale Stuckey, while Greg Reece notched up 14 points with the boot.
Elsewhere, Heol y Cyw also remain in the hunt for one of the coveted promotion spots with a try bonus 26-10 success over Abercynon.
The Cockerels' four tries came courtesy of Rhys Owen, Rhys Williams, Darren Oram and Wayne Howe, while Mike Huckridge slotted three conversions.
In the day's other fixture, Llantrisant saw off Llantwit Fadre 21-16.
