Champions' unbeaten record still intact

MAESTEG Quins remain on course to win Division Three South West without losing a single game after they saw off Brynamman 22-10.

It wasn’t vintage Quins and they didn’t manage to register four tries for a bonus point but the victory made it 18 straight successes this season with two matches to go.

Andrew Healy (2) and Nathan Morgan were the try scorers while Gareth Lewis kicked seven points to ease his side past the visitors.

No doubt where the biggest score of the day was as Ystalyfera battered Aberavon Green Stars 114-8 with Damian James the star man scoring four of the 18 tries.

Craig Watkins (3), Gareth James (2), Ashley Carter (2), Jesse Pattern (2) and Carwyn Williams (2) all made hay as did Morgan Harris, Dane Clancy and Phillip Thomas.

A dozen of the tries were converted with Damien James on target with nine of them.

Mumbles ended their campaign on a high with a 50-18 win at Vardre, Andrew Evans running in a hat-trick of tries and Andrew Claypole two. Tudor Hughes got the other.

Claypole scored half his team’s points with an extra four penalties and four conversions. Liam Garland (13) and a penalty try got the hosts’ points.

Morriston ran in four tries as they beat Bryncoch 33-10 to end the campaign on a positive note. Adam Somerfield, James Richards, Chris Shill and Connor Dewar touched down for the bonus point.

In Three West, champions Haverfordwest suffered a hangover from their title celebrations as they slipped to a surprising 29-12 reverse at Pontyberem.

Tries for the home side came courtesy of Matthew Murphy, Shaun Davies, Chris Lewis, Iwan Harris and Owain Jones with David O’Leary and Dan Birt replying.

In the only other game, Lampeter disposed of Tumble 39-5, Gethin Roberts crossing twice along with efforts from Gareth Griffiths, Richard Hawke and Llion Russell. Josh George got Tumble’s consolation score.
