Denbigh win SWALEC Two North Title

Denbigh Rugby Club have won the SWALEC National League Division 2 title with a 66 – 10 triumph over Llanidloes on 24 April 2013.

Last year the club finished in the middle of Division 2. But, during this successful season Denbigh has lost only two of the 17 games played. The score at half time was Denbigh 52 – 10 with Llanidloes bravely battling in the second half to try and escape the bottom of the division.

Denbigh scored 10 tries in all with Dan O’Sullivan scoring in the first minute of the game and captain Dan Jones scoring their last try in the last minute of the game. Tom Seddon kicked seven conversions and Llion Edwards kicked one bringing the total successful conversions to eight.
Denbigh, Club Secretary, Jeff Jenkins, comments: “The final score doesn’t really reflect the enormous effort put in by both teams and I commend Llanidloes’ determination in the second half.”

“We are fortunate to have a new, highly experienced level 4 coach, Bob Sulley, who retired from teaching and has moved to Denbigh. Not only has our first team won SWALEC Division 2 but our second team remain unbeaten this season. We are also fortunate that a few talented players have returned to Denbigh this year. We are not quite the same team as last year.”

SWALEC is the national community partner of the Welsh Rugby Union and is the national sponsor of both the SWALEC Leagues and SWALEC Cup, Plate and Bowl competition.

Huw Lock, sponsorship account manager at SWALEC, said: “Our strong partnership with the WRU has goes back a number of years and we’re very pleased to be able to support rugby in Wales through the SWALEC Leagues. It has been a great season for Welsh rugby as a whole and we have seen some impressive performances at club level. Many congratulations to Denbigh on claiming the title today.”

Denbigh will celebrate their crowning as Division 2 winners with a presentation following their away match on 27 April against Abergele.
