Boulden and Harries triumph in team event at Helen Holm

Welsh international Amy Boulden put in a sterling performance in defending her Scottish Open Stroke-Play Championship crown at the weekend, eventually falling just short.

However, the Curtis Cup star from Llandudno teamed up with Haverfordwest’s Becky Harries to pick up the international team event at Troon with a total of 449 ahead of home-grown girls Eilidh Briggs and Kelsey MacDonald on 457. Irish twins Leona and Lisa Maguire were in third with a card of 463.

Boulden posted a two under par total of 223 to finish joint fourth in the race for the prestigious Helen Holm Trophy with English star Bronte Law. She was just three strokes behind new champion Olivia Winning, an up and coming teenage prodigy from Rotherham who survived a late scare in the wet weather to triumph.

Boulden fired scores of 76, 67 and 80, an overall performance which augurs well for her season and will put her in great confidence going in to the Welsh Open Stroke-Play Championship at the Vale this weekend.

She said of her performance on Twitter: "Shot [five over] in the final round today. It was tough out there in that wind and rain! Finished [tied for fourth] overall.

"Looking forward to getting home now! Me and Becky won the team event this week though!"

Haverfordwest's Harries, who will also be in the field at the Vale, was only three strokes further back in joint eighth place after rounds of 78, 75 and 73, while Samantha Birks of Woolstanton finished with a gross 235 after rounds of 77, 77 and 81.
