They went in to half-time trailing by a point as
Andy Humberstone’s three penalties outscored a try by Bony’s Kyle Salter and a
Richard Cunniffe penalty.
The second half proved a tense affair, but the boot
of Cunniffe knocked over another three pointer to clinch the win and send the
Parc Mawr fans home with a smile of their faces.
Bony’s relegation rivals Glamorgan Wanderers went
down 18-12 at Narberth to put another nail in their own coffin. The Otters
crossed twice through Johnny Morgan and Ollie Reyland, while James Stephenson
added eight points with the boot.
The best the Wanderers could manage were four Ianto
Griffiths penalties to take home a losing bonus point, but their supporters must
be starting to worry about their prospects with only three games remaining.
At the top end of the table, Ebbw Vale stretched
their lead to 19 points and took another giant leap towards an inaugural Championship
title as they notched up another routine, seeing off Cardiff Met 36-6.
The Steelmen ran in six tries through Spencer
Gibson, David Jones, Ronny Kynes, Will Owen, Wes Cunliffe and Josh Lewis.
Bargoed continued to wobble as they attempt to
chase Ebbw Vale, sinking to their fourth defeat with a 31-17 reverse at
Blackwood.
They allowed Blackwood to cross four times through
Gareth Walters, Rhys Watkins, Rhys Humphries and Matthew McGovern to take home
all the points.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel's strong finish continues as
they claimed a 29-8 home win over Llanharan at their Margam base, despite playing
part of the match with 14 men after having Cameron Davies sent off.
They crossed three times through Gareth Edwards,
Richard Randall and Rob Hill, while Gareth Walters was on target with four
penalties and a conversion for a persona tally of 14 points.
Elsewhere, Bridgend Athletic claimed a 19-10
victory at Newbridge for their 10th win of the league campaign,
while Pontypool made it four wins on the bounce as they defeated bottom side Whitland
10-8 at Parc Llwyntygwyn.
They made the long trip west and found yet more terrible weather conditions
to make play difficult for both XVs.
The Borderers got the opening try of the game as
hooker Marc Jones drove over. Pontypool’s outside half Sam Mills then stepped
up to slot a penalty kick over to end the first-half scoring.
Both sides missed kicks at goal in the second
period, before Scott Newton landed one to extend the home side’s lead to 8-3.
Pooler then forced a penalty try as their pack
worked hard in Whitland’s 22, but despite a late surge the visitors held on for
the win to continue their best run in the league for three years.
