Welsh internationals retained by Scorpions

South Wales Scorpions are pleased to announce that Welsh internationals Steve Parry, David James and Ashley Bateman have all signed on for the 2013 season.

Parry and Bateman are the two players who have played the most games for the Scorpions with 64 and 61 appearances respectively, while Parry is the club’s top try scorer with 43.

James, who has scored 11 tries in 33 appearances for the Scorpions, played for the club in 2010 and 2012. He was Wales’ man of the match on his international debut in June against France.

All three players are in contention for a place in Iestyn Harris’ Wales squad when they take on England and France this autumn.

Scorpions’ coach Dave Clark said: “We are delighted that Steve, David and Ashley have committed to 2013 with the Scorpions.

“All three have very much been the backbone of our side in 2012. We will have some youngsters coming up into the first team and we are delighted that these three experienced Welsh international players will be there to help them along.

“We are continuing to speak to players from the current squad and we hope to reach an agreement with more of them very soon.

“Last year there were lots of delays before the Scorpions’ season could start in earnest and that really held up and affected our season. This time around we have none of those issues and it is our aim to have as near to a full squad of 25 signed as possible when we go back into training in December.”
