Llangennech see off local rivals

Hotly tipped Carmarthen Athletic, who finished third in Division One West last season, didn’t get their title campaign off to the start they wanted, going down 29-17 to local rivals Llangennech.

Llangennech helped themselves to four tries with Ellis Phillips and Matthew Lemon getting two apiece, while Rhodri Jones added three conversions and a penalty.
Athletic meanwhile were restricted to four Mike Sauro penalties and a Tom Sloane touchdown.

Stalwarts Waunarlwydd had too much for Cwmllynfell, picking up a 33-28 victory.
Waun were excellent in broken play and crossed five times through Sion Evans (2), Nathan Hart, Darryl Moore and Jordan Clayfield, while Josh Hammett added the extras to four.
Cwmllynfell’s Peter Thomas will feel hard done by to be on the losing side after bagging 23 of his side's points through a brace of touchdowns, as well as slotting two conversions and three penalties. Clive Llewellyn also went over for the hosts as they clinched a losing bonus point.

Newboys Glynneath started life with a convincing 29-10 win over fellow promoted side Aberavon Quins.
Glynneath, who have won back to back titles, produced a five try showing with back row Stuart Leach (2), flanker James Parry, and wingers Dai Evans and Keir Burrows all crossing the whitewash.
Michael Parfitt scored Quin’s only try of the game while Joe Galivant landed a conversion and a penalty.

Newcomers Kenfig Hill were unable to repeat Glynneath's success as they suffered a 33-22 opening day defeat at home against Ammanford.
Ammanford ran in five tries in a match that was filled to the brim of running rugby. Gary Stephens, Dylan Morgan, Craig Woodall, Ryan Williams and Rhidian Harris all touched down for the visitors, with Harris also landing a conversion and two penalties.
The Mules, who have followed Glynneath up the ranks, left the day empty-handed despite Ben Jones, Rhodri Clarke and Nicky Giles all crossing the whitewash.

Elsewhere, Loughor and Skewen renewed old acquaintances with the Blues, picking up a 22-11 home victory.
Loughor outscored their rivals three tries to one thanks to tries from outside half Andrew Williams, flanker Evan Hopkins and wing Morgan Bryant, while Williams added two conversions and Jamie George fired home a penalty.

Tondu Captain Paul Smithson makes inroads into the Kidwelly defence.

In the day's other fixture, Tondu overcame Kidwelly by 31-15, running in four tries in the process.

The Waterwheelers made good use of their numerical advantage, as the Black and Ambers were reduced to 14 players on seven minutes when their lock on loan from Llandovery was sent for an early shower.

Winger Mark Roberts crossed twice for the visitors, with back row Matthew Morgan and scrum half Matthew Murphy also getting in on the act, while Captain Paul Smithson added four conversions and a penalty.
