TAFFS Well will begin their defence of the Nathaniel Car
Sales League Cup away to Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) on September 15.
That first round game will be a repeat of last season’s
semi-final when Taffs Well prevailed 2-0 in Aberaman before going on to beat
Cambrian & Clydach by the same scoreline in the final.
Reigning Welsh League champions Cambrian & Clydach start
their cup campaign at Penrhiwceiber Rangers, hoping to go one step further this
time as they also bid to defend their first division title.
The round one draw, which took place at the Welsh League AGM
at Tata Steel, threw up a Newport derby with second division YMCA hosting Civil
Service of division three.
There were relatively kind draws for the Welsh League’s
newest sides, Llantwit Major and Chepstow Town, who were handed ties against
fellow third division sides Bridgend Street and Cardiff Grange Harlequins
respectively.
There are 16 ties in all with the same number of clubs,
including Bryntirion Athletic and Barry Town, fourth and fifth in division one
last season, receiving byes to the second round.
