Margam still searching for maiden win


Margam continue to struggle in Division Three of the South Wales Cricket Association, with the Port Talbot side desperately in search of their first victory, suffering their fourth loss after going down by five wickets to Drefach.
Batting first, Margam set a target of 202-8 thanks to some strong hitting from Geraint Reynolds (51) and Luke O’Connor (47). Robert Seymour 3-36 and Leigh Davies 2-47 were the most economical with the ball.
Drefach chased down the total in the 44th over, with Seymour producing a classy 71 with the bat, while Aled Davies and Llyr Morris both knocked half centuries.
Maesteg picked up their second win of their campaign thanks to a 46 run triumph at Swansea Civil Service.
The Llynfi Valley side batted first and posted 198-7, with Chris Parry the best at the crease bashing 80. Matthew Griffiths was the most notable in attack taking 3-40.
In reply, Civil Service were dismissed for 144 thanks to four wicket hauls by Steffan Roberts and Gareth Bailey.

Leaders Hills Plymouth slipped to their first defeat, going down at home by 121 runs to Briton Ferry Town. The visitors posted 246-6, but Hills Plymouth failed to reach their target and were 125a/o, despite a solid knock of 41 from Mark Chamberlain.

Meanwhile, Pontyberem picked up their first win with a tight one wicket victory over Landore.
Batting first, Landore set a target of 170-7. Jack Lee was their top scorer with 38, while Neil Williams knocked 34 and Jay Copp chipped in with 31. Keiren Evans was the pick of the bowlers in attack claiming 3-35, while Rhodri Evans took 2-43.
Pontyberem chased down the runs in the 49th over carding 171-9, with the highlight being Craig Evans’ half century (51) off 51 deliveries, including eleven 4’s, while Craig Howells hit a credible 41 as the West Walians clinched the win.
Finally, Porthcawl saw off basement boys Pwll by two wickets.
