South Wales Cricket Association division two
CARMARTHEN Wanderers, relegated last season, look set for an
immediate return to the top tier of the South Wales Cricket Association.
They were just three points away from safety at the end of
the 2011 campaign but they haven’t let that disappointment affect their
performances this time around.
Bronwydd set them what could have been a potentially tricky
target of 192 on Saturday but the Wanderers brushed aside any fears and reached
their victory target for the loss of one wicket.
Daniel Jones blitzed 132 not out and Owain Davies finished
unbeaten on 38 as the Bronwydd attack was dismissed to all parts of the ground
after they had been bowled out for 191.
While Aberdare, another side who came down for division one
last season, lost at Morriston, Cowbridge in second were also losing ground on
the Wanderers.
At home to Skewen, Cowbridge kept the visitors to 167-9 with
Tom Warner taking 4-48, but in reply the hosts were left stranded on 156-9 when
play ended. Thomas Merilaht (42) and Michael Lloyd (45) seemed set to take
Cowbridge to victory but eight maidens and 4-39 saw Skewen’s Mark Lewis halt
their march.
Briton Ferry Steel are enduring a dreadful season and it
didn’t get any better at Gorseinon.
The visitors won the toss and put the hosts in to bat and despite
Rhys Norgrove taking 4-54, Gorseinon, thanks to an unbeaten half-century from
Gavin Donald, made 186-8.
Replying, the Steelmen were undone by Tom Clarke and Dan
Allen and were bowled out for 81.
There was also an easy win for Llanelli at Stradey Park
against Llandysul. Having posted 165-8 in their allotted overs, Llanelli sent
their opponents packing, winning by 61 runs.
