Defending Champions Dafen dismantle Ynystawe

Defending champions Dafen produced a knockout performance to extend their lead at the top of Division One of the South Wales Cricket Association, dismantling Ynystawe by 81 runs.
The Llanelli outfit were put in and made 240-7, with Nicky Davies (74) and Dafydd Nicholas (57) making a stand of 138 for the second wicket, while Chris Keen (39) and Jamie Mansel (39n/o) were also in fine form at the crease. Andrew Beasley was the most economical in attack, taking 3-35.
In reply, Ynystawe got off to a shaky start, losing a number of early wickets, and despite a solid half century from Sion Jones (69) and a useful knock from Gareth Bishop (37), the visitors floundered as they were dismissed for 159. Matthew Evans was in lethal form collecting 5-49, with Andrew Rowlands once again amongst the wickets taking 3-55, while Chris Hudson mopped the tailenders up, taking 2-6.
Meanwhile, Swansea’s bid to make a swift return to the Premier League suffered a set back as they went down by 82 runs to Neath.
Neath, who look to be having another strong season after finishing third last year, batted first and set a healthy target of 225-7, with Adrian Shaw in scintillating form with the bat smashing 111, while Keiran Thomas (41) and Matthew Pearce (31) also chipped in useful tallies. Johnny Hubschmid was the best in attack taking 4-69.
The St Helen’s outfit were skittled for 143 in reply thanks to a lethal display with the ball by Keiran Bull, who claimed 4-19, and Huw Davies, who captured 3-51. Gareth Hayden was the only notable performer with the bat knocking 41.
Tata Steel leapt to third thanks to a six wicket haul by David Jones as they romped to a 90 run home victory over Clydach.
The Steelmen posted 184-9, with middle order batsmen Daniel Melinod (43) and Matthew Saker (41) the hosts' top scorers. Steven Reeve was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors taking 4-48.
Clydach in response had no answer to Jones’ dominant display as he claimed 6-38, with the Swansea Valley side reduced to 94.
Elsewhere, Maesteg Celtic finally bagged their maiden victory after defeating Pontardawe by 88 runs.
Celtic, batting first, posted 198-7 with opener Nick Poole bashing a solid 52 that included eight 4’s, while Lindsay Harris stroked a lovely 46 including seven 4’s and a six before being caught and bowled by Tamoor Sajjad, and Phil Poole finished unbeaten on 25. Owen Binding, 3-50, and Sajjad, 2-41, were the most potent in attack.
Once again, it was 15 year old Morgan Griffiths who lead the Celtic onslaught with great effect, as the youngster claimed 4-33 as Pontardawe were skittled for 110. Poole also completed a great all round performance as he picked up 2-3 from four overs. Abbas Ashraf (38) and Sajjad were the only notable perfomers with the bat as their side remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Finally, Gowerton picked up their second win with a two wicket victory over Llangenench thanks to a wonderful 97 from Sam Lyle and a solid 42 from Ian Capon, as they put on 90 runs for the sixth wicket.
