Trailblazers Narberth extended their advantage at the top of Division One West to seven points, courtesy of a 38-31 victory at Ammanford in a rip roaring clash.
The Otters crossed the whitewash five times with wing Jonny Morgan, scrum-half Adrian Killa, back row Timoci Kaumaitotya, centre Steve Martin and Wayne Williams all touching down. The ever consistent boot of Stuart Morris was on target with all five conversions and a penalty.
Ammanford will feel unlucky to have come out second best but did bag both try and losing bonus points out of the match. The hosts were on top for large periods, with prop Wyn Jones having an outstanding game in the loose bagging a brace of tries, with wingers Tom Rees and Gary Stevens also going over. Full back Carwyn Richards slotted all the conversions and a penalty.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel's title hopes suffered a setback when they failed to defeat struggling Bonymaen, going down 13-11.
Bony secured only their seventh win of the season thanks to a solitary try from Dan Griffiths. Richard Cunniffe converted and also added a first half penalty, while Paul Warlow got the all important points after the break, landing a penalty to clinch victory.
The Saints will feel this is a match they really should have won if they are to fulfil their title ambitions and, although they came away with a losing bonus point thanks to a Cameron Clement touchdown and penalties from Simon Evans and Scott Robinson, they will be bitterly disappointed with the result.
Elsewhere, basement boys Bridgend Athletic picked up their first league win since October with a 27-19 home success over Llanharan.
Athletic’s points all came through centre Mike Hathaway, who crossed the whitewash twice, and the boot of Steve Lewis, who was on target with five penalties and a conversion.
In the West Wales derby, Carmarthen Athletic came out on top at Llangennech 23-10.
Athletic gained revenge over their bitter rivals for their defeat earlier in the season thanks to touchdowns through Rhys Lewis, Jason Smith and Gareth Bennett, while Mike Sauro added a conversion and two penalties.
Whitland edged passed Tondu 19-16 at Parc Llwyntygywn.
The Borderers out scored their rivals two tries to one, with Mark Jones and Andrew Jenkins going over, and Scott Newton firing home three penalties.
The Waterwheelers, who once again put in a performance that belied their league position, did leave with a consolation losing bonus point thanks to a Darren Thomas touchdown and eleven points from the boot of Paul Smithson.
Finally, the only match of the day to fall foul to the freezing conditions was the clash at Cyncoed between UWIC and Waunarlwydd.
