The Swalec Leagues are guaranteed at least two representatives in the quarter-finals of the Swalec Cup.Bargoed’s reward for toppling Premiership outfit Aberavon is a winnable but tricky-looking match at fellow Division One East side Newbridge.
Having to travel won’t deter the Blues who were clear underdogs going to the Talbot Athletic Ground last Saturday before pulling off the shock of the round.
Just as impressive in the second round were Ebbw Vale, 26-13 winners at Newport. Their prize for claiming a Premiership scalp is a clash against Carmarthen Quins at Eugene Cross Park.
Ebbw are flying high at the top of Division One East and will definitely fancy their chances of beating an in-form Quins team that has won their last four in all competitions.
Ammanford, winners against Tata Steel, a side that had battered them the week before, have home advantage again.
They will take on another Division One West club in UWIC, conquerors of Llangennech, while Beddau host Swansea at Mount Pleasant Park, Bridgend Athletic face Neath and Rumney go to Cross Keys.
Last season’s Bowl finalists, winners Senghenydd and runners-up Maesteg Quins, are still on course to meet again this year in the Plate final.
Senghenydd play Penallta and Quins, who beat bitter rivals Maesteg in the last round for the first time in 100 years, host Kidwelly.Glynneath, who lost to Ammanford in the Plate final in 2011, have been drawn away to Cwmllynfell in round four this time.
There will be one or two long journeys in the fourth round of the Bowl, most noticeably Milford Haven’s long trek North to Dolgellau while Shane Williams’s former club Amman United entertain Gowerton.
All Swalec Cup, Plate and Bowl fixtures will be played on Saturday,
February 18.
