BRYNHILL members have voted overwhelmingly in support of a development that would see around £2m pumped back into the Barry golf club.
Some 88% of the 300 members present at a club EGM backed plans that would see the creation of an improved 18-hole course layout, a modern, multi-purpose clubhouse and 180 adjacent houses.
Developed jointly by the club’s committee and Redrow Homes, the plans include the remodelling of the course with two sets of nine holes returning to the clubhouse, a full-length buggy path and improved drainage and irrigation.
Once the work has been completed, the agreement would create an estimated £2m surplus that will be reinvested in the club.
Before the EGM, a four-day exhibition of the proposals gave Brynhill members and the local community the opportunity to put their questions to representatives of golf course architects Weller McEvoy and house builders Redrow.
“After the success of the exhibition, it was great to see over 70% of the club’s membership turn out for an EGM on a Thursday evening and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive,” said club captain Steve Jones.
“Members have now given the committee their blessing to progress the proposals with Redrow and hopefully secure the future of the club. It is a landmark day for Brynhill Golf Club but we know that the work has only just started in terms of making these proposals a reality.”
