Ebbw Vale go into next week’s Cup encounter at Cardiff as the new leaders of the National Championship, after they leapfrogged Bargoed at the summit with a dogged 34-3 victory over Bonymaen.
The Swansea side came into the match off a 90 point drubbing at Newport, but started the brighter of the two teams with Mike Jones slotting an early penalty for the hosts to give them the lead.
Jason Strange’s men, who have only lost once all season, soon clicked into gear with the referee awarding a penalty try and five points from the boot of Josh Lewis gave the visitors a 10-3 interval lead.
After the break, Bony’s resistance was finally broken with Cameron Reagan, Tom Ashmead, Lewis and Wes Cunliffe all crossing the whitewash for the Steelmen.
At the other end of the table, basement boys Whitland look doomed to go down as relegation rivals Bridgend Athletic secured a 29-3 victory at Newbridge Fields.
Athletic’s Steve Lewis was the star of the show notching up 14 of his side's points through a try, three conversions and a penalty, while Jonathan Phillips, Aled Thomas and James Olds also went over.
Meanwhile, Cardiff Met cemented third place in the table with a narrow 15-7 win over fourth placed Narberth at Cyncoed.
The Otters led 7-5 at the break thanks to a converted Wayne Williams try, but the Students had the better of the second half with Jack Lavin crossing for the hosts and Matt O’Brien adding the extras and a penalty.
Former captain Justin Jones came back to haunt Llanharan as Blackwood edged to a 15-10 win at the Dairyfield.
The visitors were ahead after only seconds when wing Matthew McGovern raced over from the kick-off, to see them lead 7-3 at the interval. Lorent Quick got the Dairymen back in it after the break, but Captain fantastic Jones crashed over to seal Blackwood’s win.
In the day’s other fixture, a Robert Downes brace helped Beddau to a comfortable 29-8 win over Pontypool.
The Green and Golds produced a strong second half performance, adding to Joe Casella’s first half effort with four more tries through Downes (2), Owen Cotton and Luke Crocker.
