Impressive performances in Sheffield and Birmingham over
recent weeks have seen Cardiff AAC 800m athlete Thomas qualify for the
showpiece event, pole vaulter Bleasdale has had an impressive start to 2013.
Thomas ran a time of 1:49.79 at the British Grand Prix in
Birmingham on the weekend, with the qualification time set at 1:48.00. He also
won the British Trials in Sheffield a week earlier.
It means he qualifies for the championships ahead of London
2012 800m finalist Andrew Oshadie, who failed to make the squad after Thomas was
joined by Mukhtar Mohammed and Michael Rimmer to compete in the men’s 800m.
Thomas Tweeted after the event: “Had a stinker today with a
few problems leading into race, but did enough to get picked for Great Britain
at Euro Champs.” He later added: “Looking forward to the Euros!”
Bleasdale goes to Sweden as world No1 and the favourite to
win the pole vault, winning the event in Birmingham with a height of 4.70m.
She Tweeted after the event: “Amazing day today. Tried some
longer poles and they worked so well! Crowd was amazing as usual.”
The full squad was announced on Tuesday (February 19).
