Welsh team end Nations Cup on a high

WALES climbed three places to 12th on the final day of the European Nations Cup in Spain.

Pennard ace James Frazer ended his tournament with a round of 71, which also left him 12th in the individual standings.

Had the 2011 Duncan Putter champion not started his campaign at Sotogrande with an 80 he could well have threatened the top of the leaderboard.

In the end, a play-off was needed to determine the best golfer on show and it was Dutchman Robin Kind who claimed first prize while the French team took the Nations Cup.

As for the Welsh foursome, along with Frazer’s 71, Jason Sufflebotham and David Boote recorded closing round 73s while Joe Vickery’s 82 completed a miserable tournament for the Newport man.

Wales’s final position was four places down on last year, however, Frazer was the best-placed Welshman again after coming 18th in 2011.

In the women’s event, the French made it a double as won easily from Germany. And to put the icing on the cake, France’s Celine Boutier was the top female by three strokes from Denmark’s Nicole Broch Larsen.
