Glyncoch’s Swalec Bowl fairytale continues after the Six Central side defied the odds to secure a dramatic 18-16 home win over Four West leaders Amman United, and take one step closer to the Millennium Stadium.
The hosts' Shaun Baggs was the hero of the day with the full back slotting six penalties which included holding his nerve to fire home a last minute penalty to secure the win.
United crossed for the only try of the match through Gavin Lewis, while Rhys Thomas slotted three penalties and a conversion, but it was not enough for the Glanamman side, who must now turn their attentions back to promotion.
However, there was to be no fairytale for Six East’s Caerleon, who went down 27-24 at Tycroes.
The Division Five South West highfliers were in front throughout with touchdowns from Gareth Jones, Tristan Morgan and Frank Williams, while Grant Williams fired home two penalties and three conversions.
The visitors did put up a late fightback through tries from Josh Jones and Jonny Miles, with the former also adding a conversion and four penalties, though could not overturn Tycroes' earlier efforts.
Elsewhere, Four East’s Talywain made the long trip north to Dolgellau and recorded an 18-11 success.
The visitors crossed the whitewash three times through a Wayne Redman brace, with Adam Williams also touching down, while Morgan Parry landed a penalty.
The Two North outfit could only manage a solitary try from Gethin Edwards and two Dan Jones penalties.
Finally, New Tredegar also booked their place in the semi-final draw with a hard fought 22-17 triumph at Resolven.
The Four East side ran in three tries through a Lloyd Mason double with Darren Griffiths also touching down, with the latter also adding a conversion.
The hosts touched down through Alan Langdon, Nik Reed and Lloyd Morgan but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
