Last-gasp own goal dents United's hopes

GOYTRE United squandered the chance to go top of MacWhirter Welsh League division one as 'keeper Leon Cosker scored an 89th-minute own goal in a 1-0 defeat to Pontardawe Town.

Cosker’s side were presented with a great opportunity when leaders Cambrian & Clydach and second-placed Haverfordwest County both drew on Friday night but they were unable to take advantage.

Taffs Well are now level with Goytre after beating West End 2-1 and Barry Town boosted their title hopes with a 4-0 success at home to Cwmaman Institute. Josh Bell and Ryan Jenkins both grabbed a brace.

Monmouth Town consolidated their 10-point lead over Tata Steel in division two with Rob Laurie and Dan Spence getting the goals in a 2-1 triumph at Aberbargoed Buds.

Tata were pushed all the way by Penrhiwceiber Rangers. Thomas Edwards, Chris Parfitt, Oliver Bowen and Damon Thomas were on the scoresheet in a thrilling 4-3 victory.

Caerleon hammered Ely Rangers 4-0, Josh Brown getting two, and Newport YMCA saw off Ammanford 2-0.

In division three, Undy battered Treowen Stars 6-1 with Gareth Cullimore finding the back of the net on four occasions as his side maintained their lead.

Bridgend Street hit Newport Civil Service for five with Nicky Fish, out of the game for six years following a car crash, celebrating his comeback with a penalty.

Nathan King scored two for Pontypridd Town in a 3-2 win against Abertillery Bluebirds, Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Risca United 1-0 and Goytre slipped to a 2-1 reverse at UWIC.
