The North Walians dominated the set piece and were rewarded
through tries from Carwyn ap Myrddin, Andrew Williams, Richard Hopkins (2),
Mike Jones, Andrew Swartz and Mitch McGahan.
Bwl were always on the back foot but put in a spirited
display on a chilly night at Parc Eiras. Tempers did threaten to spill over
late on, however, with two Bwl players sinbinned for a punch up. It does make
you wonder if they were fighting with each other...?
Pacemakers Ystrad Rhondda had to dig deep to defeat
determined visitors Heol y Cyw 19-5 in One East as they saw their advantage at
the top cut to three points.
Ystrad, who have mesmerised many a defence so far this
season, were unable to unleash their scything backs as the conditions and the
Cockerels dragged them into a forward orientated battle.
Fly half Rhys Truelove steadied the ship and made sure
any Heol y Cyw indiscretion was punished as he bagged eleven points, while Ryan
Howells touched down before the break.
The Cockerels' only score of the match came before the
break with Stuart Mason crossing.
Mountain Ash went some way to easing their relegation
woes as they dispatched Tredegar 49-22 to pick up a much needed five points.
The Old Firm helped themselves to eight tries against the
basement boys with Nick Griffiths and Evan Ellis bagging braces, while Luke
James, Keiran Holding, Tom Withers and debutant Mark Tyler also crossed.
Meanwhile, Penallta are still Rhydyfelin’s bogey side as
the Pitmen leapfrogged their rivals into third thanks to a 12-0 victory.
The Pitmen were more clinical with the tee, as Andre
Soroko slotted two penalties while Gary Wilkes and Jonny Wright landed one
apiece.
Rumney recorded their third win on the bounce with a
gritty 26-20 home win over Treorchy.
The hosts crossed three times through James Monk, Wayne
de Cruz and Lawrence Facey, while Danny Clarke fired home three penalties and a
conversion.
For the Zebras, it was their second defeat in as many
weeks and despite Chris Jenkins and Trystan Lazarus touching down for the
visitors, they had to settle for just a losing bonus point.
Elsewhere, having not played in the league since the
beginning of December, some would have forgiven Gilfach Goch for being a tad
rusty but there were no such signs as they cruised past Merthyr 35-19.
Gowch bagged a bonus point with scores from Michael
Hughes, Ricky Pridey, Greg Roberts and a penalty try, while Ian Davies notched
up 15 points with the boot.
