Blue Square Premier League side Newport County added to their squad ahead of the final leg of the season by signing Cambridge United winger Robbie Willmott and recapturing Christian Jolley on a permanent deal late last week.
Newport sit just a point behind Wrexham at the top of the table, but hold a game in hand over their Welsh rivals, following the 4-2 victory away at Lincoln City on Saturday, in which Willmott immediately endeared himself to the County faithful by scoring a brace.
Manager Justin Edinburgh described their signings as a “major boost”, and praised the County board for completing two big signings in just 24 hours.
He said on the club’s website on Friday: "Every time I have come across [Willmott] as a manager he has caused havoc and he is one that I have kept an eye on for some time.
“He's been involved in four play-offs, has experience at this level and will be a major boost for us as we head for the second-half of the season.
“He can play on either wing and will give us a different dimension going forward, and I'm pleased to have him on board.
“[Jolley is] a great signing for the club. We all know what he brings to the side and it shows the ambitions of the board of directors and the club. We have targeted two players and got them both in the last 24 hours.”
The 22-year old Willmott has been capped at England C level and was named in the Conference Team of the Year last season. He has previously played for Luton Town.
Jolley, of course, spent time on loan at Rodney Parade from AFC Wimbledon before Christmas, whom he helped in to the Football League in 2011 for the first time since the club was formed in the fallout of Wimbledon FC’s switch to Milton Keynes, and has also previously starred for Kingstonian.
