Pope answers Waun's prayers

Alan Pope rescued the points for Waunarlwydd with a last minute touchdown as they saw off visiting Kidwelly 13-11 in One West.
The Black and Ambers were ahead thanks to a Dylan Evans try with Gareth Rees adding two penalties. Waun fought back with scrum half Lee Evans adding a second penalty to his first half effort, and the hosts began to ask questions of the visitors’ defence but with the win still looking unlikely, Pope answered Waun’s prayers dashing beneath the posts with Evans landing the extras to wrap up the win.

It was business as usual for leaders Tondu as they bounced back from their shock defeat last week to record a 40-17 win at Ammanford and stretch their lead to eight points at the summit.

The Waterwheelers ran in five tries with the three Matthews - Davies, Morgan and Phillips - amongst the scorers, while Paul Smithson had another fine day with the boot adding three penalties and three conversions.

Second place Cwmllynfell also picked up a win, but by the much tighter margin of 14-8, away at Skewen.

Ryan Bayliss and Daniel Jones ran in the tries for the visitors, with Peter Thorn converting both.

The result leaves Skewen second from bottom but six points ahead of Aberavon Quins, who also went down 3-8 at home to Kenfig Hill.

Chris Tossell scored the only try of the match for the Mules, who also had a penalty through Nicky Giles. Matthew Phillips replied for the Quins, who have a game in hand over Skewen.

Elsewhere, Carmarthen Athletic posted an impressive 27-14 win over Lougher, where Owen Herbert, Simon O’Leary and Gareth Bennett (2) were the try scorers. Scott Mayhand added two conversions and a penalty.

Finally, Llangennech outscored Glynneath 22-17 in an entertaining seven try encounter.

Brothers Ellis and Rhys Phillips, Rhys Davies and Dan Jacobs scored the home side’s tries, with Rhodri Jones adding a conversion, while Kyle Roberts, Rhodri Cole and Owen Jordan crossed for Glynneath.
