The first ever fully national Welsh Premier Women’s League will kick off on Septmeber 16.
The League will consist of twelve teams with the ten member clubs from last season’s North and South Conferences being joined by Llandudno Junction Ladies and Cardiff City LFC.
The first weekend of matches will give Wrexham an early opportunity to avenge their play off defeat against Cardiff Metropolitan Ladies as well as five other mouth-watering matches.
With an ever growing number of women and girls taking up the sport, the FAW see the creation of a National League as a vital part of a successful pathway for the national side.
Men’s National Team Manager, Chris Coleman, is a firm believer in this new development:
“I wish the new format every success. The fact that the League will be truly national for the first time indicates the growth in interest and standard of women’s football in Wales”.
Women’s National Team Manager Jarmo Matikainen has also given the development the big thumbs-up:
“The move to get our league national is vital. This can only be good for the women’s game in Wales”.
