Galliford on course for South Wales doubles

TOP seed Zack Galliford made it safely through to the last four of the South Wales Boys’ Matchplay Championship yesterday but Ollie Dickson is out.

Galliford, crowned the strokeplay champion on Tuesday, first beat Celtic Manor’s Jake Darlington by a comfortable margin of 4&3 then blitzed Daniel Reeves of Old Padeswood 6&5 in the quarters.

Borth & Ynyslas youngster Galliford faces Rhys Jones of Mountain Ash today for a place in the final while, in the other semi, Southerndown’s John Luke Williams takes on Greg Tickell of the Hallamshire club.

Williams caused a sensation yesterday when he beat strokeplay runner-up Dickson (Pennard) 2&1 then kept his run going with a 3&1 victory over Pontypridd’s Daniel Pickering.

Tickell also sprung something of a surprise when he defeated third seed Joe du Feu 3&2 in round one before dominating Max Davies (Fairwood Park) 6&5 in the last eight.

Galliford’s next opponent Jones began his campaign at Llandrindod Wells with a 2&1 triumph over Alex Matthews (Cardiff) then he beat Kieran Harman of Cottrell Park by two holes.

Details of semi-finals and final to follow.
