Premiership youngsters given chance to shine

A NUMBER of players who have impressed in the Principality Premiership this season feature in the Wales under-20s’ extended training squad for the upcoming Six Nations.
New coach Danny Wilson and team manager Mark Taylor have announced an initial 36-man group, which will be cut to 30 ahead of Wales’ opening match in the tournament in Ireland on February 3.
And the omission of 10 players, some like Matthew Morgan who will be on regular regional duty and others playing for the Wales Sevens team, has given fresh talent the chance to shine.
Not only will they be able to stake a claim for the Six Nations but also the Junior World Cup in June.
“The 10 players excluded will be available for the Junior World Cup,” said Taylor. “Therefore it is important those who are selected for the Six Nations take their opportunity to push their case.”
Those selected in the preliminary training squad include Swansea fly-half Sam Davies, son of Scarlets head coach Nigel, Pontypridd outside-half Lewis Williams and Cardiff back row Ellis Jenkins.
Wales’ youngest full international Tom Prydie is also there as well as Leicester second row Jonathan Gardiner and London Irish scrum-half Jack Moates.
