Steelmen in ruthless form

Pacemakers Ebbw Vale extended their lead at the top of Division One East thanks to a clinical, try bonus 39-17 victory at Mountain Ash.
The Steelmen got off to a great start as Dan Dearden crossed early on, with Dai Jones, Tom Macpherson, Charlie Simpson and Ewan Hopkins also touching down. Dorian Jones fired home two penalties and three conversions, with replacement Dan Haymond also adding a conversion.
The Old Firm were restricted to Josh Lewis and Gavin Howell touchdowns, with Lewis also landing a conversion and penalty, and Nick Griffiths adding a conversion.

Gareth Knight makes a break for the Wanderers

In the battle at the bottom, Glamorgan Wanderers came out on top, 18-11 at Tredegar to pick up only their second win.
The Wanderers crossed twice through Owen Marshall and Dan Lovell, with Gareth Cull slotting two penalties and a conversion.
New boys Tredegar meanwhile are still desperately seeking their maiden win at this level but did salvage a bonus point thanks to a Darren Lloyd touchdown and two Greg Toombs penalties.
Newbridge regrouped from their defeat last week to run out 18-3 home winners over Treorchy in a match littered with missed opportunities.
The hosts ran in three tries through wing Trevor James and props Mike Hutchins and Geraint Weaver. Bevan Howells fired home a first half penalty but was uncharacteristically off target for much of the match.
The Zebras in response could only manage a first half penalty from wing Ryan Evans.
Meanwhile, highflying Bargoed notched up their ninth win with a 20-13 victory at Merthyr.
The visitors ran in two tries through a well-taken Andre McLaughlin touchdown, with back row Lewis Wayman also going over. Matthew Hurley added the extras to both and also fired home two penalties to guide his side to victory.
The Ironmen had the better of the second half territory but could only add a Geraint Edwards try to Neil Burnett’s two first half penalties and were unable to capitalise on Anthony Lott’s sin binning for the visitors.
Elsewhere, Rumney picked up their fourth win with a 32-15 home success over Beddau at Riverside Park.
The hosts went over for four touchdowns through Mike Neale, Simon Barry, Gareth Stoppani and Danny Clark, with the latter also landing three conversions and two penalties.
Beddau in response were held to Mark Addis and Scott Britton tries, while Cameron Pimlow added one conversion and a penalty, but it was not enough to avoid slipping to their sixth defeat.
Finally, Gilfach Goch ground out a 19-18 victory at Blackwood.
Goch’s stand out performer was Lewis Williams, who bagged all the visitors’ points crossing for a brace of tries and firing home three penalties.
