Mold anticipate tough contest

Mold travel to Bro Ffestiniog on Saturday, on the back of four straight defeats, with the strugglers knowing that the result is now more crucial than the performance.

Bro ran out 47-12 victors when the sides met in the reverse earlier in the season with Mold in an expansive and open encounter.
Head Coach Les Byrne said the nature of away ground rugby for Mold meant that the game on display would likely change as different constraints would come in to play. "I think the nature of the rugby changes in the return legs as both sides tend to be a wee bit more conservative in the game they play”.

For Mold, Byrne highlighted turnover ball as the greatest risk, saying that playing with freedom could turn the stern test on its head. "They (Bro) probably wont chance their arm as much as in the first encounter as they don't want to make mistakes and give us opportunities to exploit our running backs”.

As always he expected a tough challenge from Bro. "They are always going to be competitive aren't they, particularly at home?” he said. “They are a reasonable rugby side on their own turf, so things haven't changed much from last year when we previously met”.

Byrne also played down Mold’s injuries, which have seen various players ruled out for weeks rather than days, by saying that there was a good mindset in the squad. “We did have a couple of additional injuries from last weeks game against Nant, but as I said at the time that's the reality of our level of club rugby and we have to handle that well."

"How we handle the players and their training over this week is going to be very important. I think it was handled very well last week. Some have played a lot of rugby, others are new to the starting line up but I think they are in good shape for this week”.

"Again as I said last Saturday, a lot of it was going to be mental rather than physical this week. We didn’t train as we would normally train but certainly, the guys that have got a full tank ready for Saturday are clear what they need to do and will certainly go all out to deliver".
