Ynysybwl sealed their place in Division One next year thanks to a hardfought 21-14 home triumph over Champions Ystrad Rhondda. The win saw them clinch the fourth and final promotion place, leapfrogging Heol y Cyw in the process.
For Bwl, it was a must win match as they looked to snatch away promotion from Heol y Cyw, who started the day three points ahead, but the hosts showed the same determination that saw them inflict Penallta’s first defeat since October as they ran in two tries through Alan Thomas and Nathan Ellis, with Richard Tibbs notching up 11 points with the boot.
Ystrad Rhondda sent their strongest team to Bwl but failed to clinch win number 19 of their season, though did bag a losing bonus point thanks to touchdowns from David Gratton and Masin Al Azzawi, with Alex Webber adding both conversions. With the Champions pressing, Bwl’s defence stood tall and failed to buckle under immense pressure in the closing moments.
Kidwelly beat out rivals Builth Wells 21-17 to secure seventh spot in Division Two West and due to the formation of the National Championship next season, it means they have also secured Division One rugby.
The Black and Ambers crossed three times through an Aaran Warren double, with Craig Thomas also touching down, while Gareth Rees notched up six points with the boot.
Elsewhere, Champions Glynneath completed their successful league campaign picking up their 19th win of the season with a 21-9 success at Cwmllynfell.
The visitors, inspired by two tries from John McPhail as well as a touchdown from Craig Tennant, were too strong for third placed Cwmllynfell.
