Maesteg kick off their Division Three campaign

Maesteg kicked off their Division Three South Wales Cricket Association campaign off with a winning draw at Briton Ferry Town.
The Llynfi Valley side batted first and set a total of 161, Chris Parry was the best with the bat knocking 40 including four 4’s and one 6 while Jonathan Hood (33) finished undefeated. Captain Craig Jewell lead the line well taking 4-27, while Afaq Shah captured 2-21 and Darren Phillips chipped in with 2-46.
Town in reply were 133-8 when their overs ran out, Akoob Ali (41) and Lee Bagridge (41) were their most notable performers with the bat. The hosts had looked to be crusing at one stage on 115-3 but five quick wickets halted their progress, with Martin Hood the star with the ball collecting 5-31 from 15 overs, including five maidens, while Jonathan Hood bagged 2-17 from five overs.
Drefach’s bid to bounce straight back up to Division Two got off to a good start thanks to a two wicket defeat of Pontyberem.
Pontyberem were dismissed for 149 in the 45th over, Wayne Thomas hit 39, while Daniel Griffiths notched up 38 with his innings including five 6’s. Leigh Davies 4-37 and Rob Seymour 3-32 were the most potent in attack for the hosts.
Drefach just about reached their target within the overs required carding 154-8, with Seymour their top scorer on 40. However, Drefach did look to be faltering on 90-7 but an eighth wicket partnership between Aled Davies 27 and Mark Jones 16, n/o, rescued the win for them.
Meanwhile, Margam’s start to life in a new division hasn’t started well after they suffered a nine wicket defeat at the hands of old foes Swansea Civil Service.
Margam lost the toss and were put into bat, and were skittled for just 55, Rob Davies (18) their only player to get into double figures.
In reply, Civil Service easily made the target for the loss of just one wicket, carding 56-1.
Porthcawl had to settle for a losing draw at Landore. The hosts set a total of 203 with David Burrows contributing 48 and Steve Morrison chipping in with 40. Neil Williams collected 3-25.
The Seasiders ran out of overs as they finished on 163-7, Rob Jones was the best with the bat for his side knocking 36.
In the day's other scheduled match, Hills Plymouth were given a walkover against Pwll when they failed to raise a team.
