WICKETS tumbled and runs were hard to come by as Bethesda
won a low-scoring affair against Brymbo 2nds in division two of the North Wales
Cricket League.
Chasing just 65, Bethesda crept home on 69-8 to move to
within one point of leaders Buckley, whose match against Northop 2nds was
cancelled.
Bottom-of-the-table Brymbo had ‘extras’ as their second best
scorer after Matthew Griffiths, who made 20 before being bowled by Dale Davies
(2-4).
Richard Williams was the standout bowler, with 5-33 in his
12 overs, as Brymbo really struggled. That said, only two Bethesda batsmen
reached double figures – Jonathan Williams (19) and Huw Pritchard (13).
They made hard work of it, but Bethesda, who lost four
wickets to Matthew Scott, did enough.
Bodedern are close behind Bethesda in third following a win
by four wickets against Carmel & District at Presaddfed.
A slow outfield led to another low-scoring match, which
unbelievably was Carmel’s first of the season to actually go ahead in five
attempts.
They won the toss and elected to bat but the Bodedern attack
limited Carmel to a respectable 117 from their allotted overs. Jonathan
Fisher(33) and skipper Gwion Dafydd (29) batted well while Gareth Thomas took
3-22.
In reply, Bodedern’s top order collapsed to the experienced
attack of Steve Jones (3-19) and Daf Timothy (2-22) and at one stage were 24-5.
Then up stepped James Jones with a fine knock of 48 not out
and he was supported by Brian Hughes (16) and Dewi Hughes (28) to steer Bodedern
home.
Elsewhere in division two, Connah’s Quay beat Gwersyllt Park
by 38 runs and Dolgellau earned a profitable winning draw against Rhewl.
