Bargoed keep pressure on at the top

Highflying Bargoed kept up the pressure on Newbridge at the top of Division One East, thanks to a 27-10 home win over Gilfach Goch.
The hosts ran in three first half tries through wing Jordan Purcell, centre James Pizey and Adam Coupe with Josh Prosser converting all three but they were unable to pick up a try bonus point in the second half and had to be content with two penalties from the boot of Prosser.

Gilfach were restricted to a solitary Matthew Llewellyn score with wing Matthew Wray converting to add to his first half penalty.
Trailblazers Newbridge continued their scintillating start  with a 22-10 victory over new boys Mountain Ash at Parc Dyffryn Pennar.
Lat year’s runners up outscored the hosts three tries to two, with fullback Ceri Young, Aaron Quick and hooker Darren Hughes all crossing the whitewash. Bevan Howells slotted two conversions and a penalty to make it six wins from six from last year’s runners up.
The Old Firm in response could only manage touchdowns from Josh Lewis and prop James Cowdry.
Merthyr piled the pressure on freefalling Glamorgan Wanderers who slipped to their fifth loss, going down 35-28 at the Memorial Ground.
The Ironmen picked up a try bonus through a Greg Plant brace, with Andrew Murphy and Aaron Howard also crossing. Neil Burnet helped himself to 15 points through three penalties and three conversions.
Although there were more encouraging signs for Wanderers, who managed to salvage a losing bonus point thanks to scores from Joe Xiberras, Charlie Johnson and Dan Lovell, with Gareth Cull also slotting three penalties and two conversions.
Defending Champions Ebbw Vale heaped more woe on new boys Tredegar as they picked up an emphatic 59-17 home win.
Ebbw crossed the new boys line nine times, through braces for Tom Ashmead, Tom McPhereson and Tom Daley, with Nicky Coughlin and Callum Brennan also touching down. The Steelmen were also awarded a penalty try, while Dan Haymond landed three conversions, Charlie Simpson slotted two and Dorian Jones added another two to complete the rout.
Struggling Tredegar, who have yet to register a victory in this higher Division, ran in two tries in reply through Matthew Mc Govern and Rhys Hallet, with Scott Amber converting both and also landing a penalty.
Blackwood secured their fourth win with a try bonus 27-20 victory over Rumney at Riverside Park.
The visitors ran in four tries through a Kristian Perry brace, with Adam John and Gareth Price also going over. Price also slotted two conversions and a penalty in what proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Rumney, who have only registered one win in six games, had to be content with a losing bonus point thanks to tries by Gareth Steffanie and Joe Offside with outside half Dan Clark landing two penalties and both conversions. Treorchy notched up their second win at the expense of Beddau running out comfortable 25-7 home victors at Mount Pleasant Park.
The Zebras crossed for three tries through Jamie Summers, Richie Lewis and Ryan Evans with the boot of Celyn Ashton adding ten points through two conversions and two penalties.
Beddau’s only score of the game came courtesy of a Rhaz Majopi touchdown, which Steve Robinson duly converted.
